Autrese Thornton appointed to Board of Education of Baltimore County by Governor Wes Moore

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE — The Claude C. Thornton Foundation proudly celebrates the appointment of our Co-Founder and Education Director, educational consultant and community advocate, Autrese Thornton, to the Baltimore County Board of Education by Maryland Gov. Wes Moore.

Thornton was selected from nominees submitted by the Baltimore County School Board Nominating Commission and will complete the term of former board member Tiara Booker-Dwyer through December 4, 2028. She is scheduled to be sworn in on Wednesday, June 24, and will participate in her first Board meeting that evening.

A lifelong advocate for students, families, and educational equity, Thornton brings more than a decade of experience in public education and youth development to this role. Her professional background includes serving as a special educator in Baltimore City Public Schools for five years and as an assistant principal in Baltimore County Public Schools for nine years. Today, she continues her impact through multiple leadership roles, including Mentor Manager for Natural Born Champions, Community Conversation Facilitator for Teach For America, Subject Matter Expert for the National Board for Certified Counselors, Empowerment Coach through See Limitless, LLC, and Caseworker for Baltimore County.


At the Claude C. Thornton Foundation, Thornton has played an instrumental role in shaping the organization's educational programming, youth engagement efforts, scholarship initiatives, and community-centered leadership development opportunities. As Co-Founder, CFO, and Education Director, she has helped guide the Foundation's growth while ensuring that education remains at the center of our mission to build stronger, healthier, and more empowered communities.
